How to batch cook on Sunday — UK family tea plan

Batch cooking fails when you cook everything and freeze nothing useful. Cook bases, not full platters.

Eight moves. One Sunday afternoon.

  1. Clear the fridge. Bin the mystery tubs. You need shelf space for what you will cook.
  2. Pick three bases. Mince, roast chicken, and a big pot of pasta sauce cover most UK teas.
  3. Shop the list only. Write quantities. No browsing. No while-I-am-here snacks.
  4. Cook in waves. Oven first, hob second. Two timers. No scrolling.
  5. Portion hot. Boxes while warm. Label with day. Freeze what is not for Mon to Wed.
  6. Veg tray ready. Chop carrots, peppers, broccoli. Bag for the week.
  7. Write the tea grid. Mon to Fri: base + veg + carb. Stick it on the fridge.
  8. Stop at good enough. Perfect plating is not the job. Hot food on the table is.
