How to prepare your home for winter — UK checklist
Winter bites when drafts and boilers are ignored in October. Fix them before the first freeze.
Eight moves. Before the cold snap.
- Boiler service booked. Do not wait for the breakdown on the coldest night.
- Bleed radiators. Top cool, bottom hot means air. Key and cloth.
- Draft excluders. Letterbox, doors, unused chimneys.
- Gutters clear. Or book someone. Overflowing gutters soak walls.
- Outdoor taps lag. Foam sleeve. Cheap insurance.
- Torch and batteries. Known drawer. Power cuts happen.
- Pipe foam in loft. If accessible and safe.
