Free Christmas word search for kids

Twelve festive words hidden in a 12 x 12 grid. The words go across and down only, so it's just right for about ages 6 to 9. Print it straight from this page (Ctrl and P, or Share then Print on a phone). The answers are at the bottom.

Ways to make it more fun

  • Race the timer. Time the first go, then see if they can beat it tomorrow on a fresh print.
  • Colour as you go. Give each word its own colour. It turns into a bright pattern by the end.
  • Clue mode. Cover the word list and read clues instead: "Father Christmas", "it goes bang at dinner", "the bird with a red chest".
  • Make your own. Older children can draw a 10 x 10 grid and hide 8 words for a brother, sister or grandparent.
  • Quiet-time trick. Keep a few printed in a folder for the car, a restaurant or Christmas afternoon when everyone needs a sit-down.

Frequently asked questions

How do I print this Christmas word search?
Press Ctrl and P (or Cmd and P on a Mac, or Share then Print on a phone). The page is set up so the grid and word list print cleanly on one A4 sheet. The answers are hidden until you open them, so they won't print by accident.
What age is this word search for?
About ages 6 to 9. The words only go across and down, never backwards or diagonally, so younger readers can find them. For ages 4 to 5, read the words out and let them hunt for the first letter.
How can I make a word search harder?
Set a timer, ask them to find the words in alphabetical order, or cover the word list and give clues instead (for example, 'the bird with a red chest' for ROBIN).
Is it free to use in a classroom?
Yes. You can print this one free page for your family or your class. The paid pack is for personal and classroom use too.
